To make sure your pet gets just the right amount of food every time, follow these easy steps to calibrate your feeder and set accurate feed times using either the App or the timer.
Step 1: Determine the Ideal Portion Size for your Pet
(optional if you already have a preferred amount you feed per pet on a daily basis)
Start by finding out how much food your dog should be eating daily:
- Best Method: Check the back of your dog’s food bag for feeding guidelines.
- Ask your veterinarian if you're unsure
- Use a standard measuring cup to measure the actual food portions, when appropriate (optional).
- Refer to the Recommended Daily Feeding Guide Chart shown below for estimated seconds / output
Important: If feeding multiple times per day, divide the total Daily Amount by the number of meals scheduled. For example, if feeding 2 cups per day, over two feedings per day (morning / evening) set the feeder to dispense 1 cup in the morning and 1 cup in the evening.
Step 2: There are 2 Easy Ways to Calibrate the SimplePets SMARTFeeder™
Pro tip: When first filling your feeder, press and hold the MENU/SNACK button and run the feeder for a few seconds to allow the food to drop down into the patent pending feeding system before using Method A or B below. Once food begins dropping into the bowl, it’s ready to calibrate.
Method A: Using the Timer on the Feeder

Method B: Using the App
- Go to MY DEVICES in the App
- Tap the SNACK icon, then tap FEED NOW.
- Start with a 1-second feed time, and increase gradually until the desired portion is dispensed.
- Use the total number of seconds it takes to dispense your desired portion to schedule your regular daily feed events.
Feeding Snacks: There are 2 Easy Ways to feed your pet a snack (or meal) anytime, from anywhere, outside your regularly scheduled feed events:
- On the timer: Press and hold the MENU/SNACK button until food dispenses. Release button when feeder has dispensed the desired amount of food.
- On the App: Tap Snack 1s or use Feed Now to select 1-30 seconds to dispense a custom portion.
Example Feeding Times in Cups and Seconds (Estimates)
Refer to the Recommended Feeding Chart below for a general idea of how long it takes to dispense different portion sizes (amounts and times will vary by kibble size and shape among other factors):

Important Food Guidelines & Tips to keep your feeder running smoothly:
- Use dry kibble only, up to ½ inch in diameter.
- Do not use wet, canned, or moist food.
